Spending the Summer at a Treatment Center

Spending the Summer at a Treatment Center

Wow, it is summer in North Dakota—the time of year we try to cram in as much outdoor time as possible. After surviving the long winter, we cherish the warm weather and the seemingly endless hours of sunlight. The kids are out of school and we try to keep them busy with as many activities as we can come up with—picnicking, fishing, camping, playing baseball and going to games, going to the lake—summer is a time of living every day to the fullest. Ah, summertime...think of all the possibilities!

Now, imagine what it's like to be a kid in residential treatment during the summer. All their freewheeling plans are put aside as they work towards their treatment goals. Life at home—including family reunions, outings with friends, and days at the pool—moves on without them. Therapy and psychiatric care continue just as intensely over the summer months as during the school year.

This is not to say kids don't have fun at the Ranch during the summer. Staff take advantage of the long summer days to squeeze in as much treatment and fun as can be had in one day. We keep the kids as connected to the community as possible, as this is where they will return.

Please remember how busy our kids are in the summer and keep them in your hearts and prayers. Summer at the Ranch is a busy wonderful place, but let's not forget how hard both our kids and staff are working each day.

Have a wonderful blessed summer,
