From the child's perspective

From the child's perspective

From the child's perspective

When children come into our care we get lots of medical and school and other official information about them. Knowing their history helps us know how to approach and treat each child.

Realizing it was important to also understand how each child defines themselves, one of our Treatment Directors introduced a series of questions to the intake process. I am sharing one child's answers with you today. I think it is so important to understand these kids from their own perspective.

Here are “C’s” answers (the capital letters are from the original! So is the spelling, which is really good!):

Age:    13

Favorite Color:    Purple

Favorite Snack:    Jolly Ranchers

The three most important things you should know about me are:

  1. Very Good at Shooting Basketball
  2. Good at Math
  3. Like Pizza

When I grow up I want to: Be AN Engineer

You will know I am sad when: I get emotional.

You will know I am mad or frustrated when: I get Crabby.

You will know I am happy when: I get Silly.

When I am sad I would appreciate if you: Comfort me.

When I am mad or frustrated I would appreciate if you: redirect me.

When I am happy I would appreciate if you: help me Remember to Stay Appropriate.

I am proud of myself when: I am Complemented – Win – Make New Friends.

I am comfortable talking to new people when: they are Calm – Funny – Fun to Be around.

These kids just want to be their best selves. Thank you for your prayers and support that help them on their journey.

In His love,

Joy Ryan, President/CEO
