School Mission
Students’ individual needs are met at Dakota Memorial School by strengthening academic, vocational and technological competence as well as facilitating positive behavioral changes so that successful transition into a less restrictive environment is possible.
Dakota Memorial School (DMS) is a private school located west of Minot, N.D., on the campus of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch (DBGR). A second school is located on the Western Plains Campus of DBGR in Bismarck, ND. DMS is accredited by both the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch has received significant support for a recent addition to Dakota Memorial School on the Minot campus – we thank all of you who have so generously given to help the children:
- The Otto Bremer Foundation, St. Paul, Minnesota
- I. Keating Furniture, Minot
- Gifts given to memorialize and honor private families
- Many individual and family donors
Each DMS student’s education is individualized to meet his/her unique needs, and formal plans are developed within 30 school days of a student’s admission. Elementary and middle school students are promoted to the next grade while high school students earn credits toward graduation when appropriate. Cooperative programs with local schools and agencies are utilized when appropriate to meet the unique needs and interests of a student. A formal graduation ceremony is held each spring to recognize those students who have met the requirements to earn a high school diploma.
Dakota Memorial School, Western Plains Residential Center (Bismarck), has five staff members. They serve students with mental retardation, serious emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, other health impairments, and pervasive developmental disorders.
For Parents:
* Dakota Memorial School does not discriminate in admission, employment or administration of its programs based upon race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion or handicap.
